It’s only been a few days in but there has been no ant activity since we got Combat Pest Control in to take care of a pretty serious ant problem. It’s only been a few days but the change is clear. Will see how the next few weeks go.

Though we dream of treating empty houses without furniture, people, or pets; that is not the reality of residential pest control. So, below is a guide, not a rule book. We will always work with you to make practical arrangements, for a successful and stress-free pest service fully backed by our solid guarantees, with no charge for returns.

How should I prepare my home before Combat arrives for an ant treatment?

Answer: Clear all surfaces, remove clutter from skirting boards, store food in sealed containers, and clear access to your roof space. Do not use any DIY ant sprays or supermarket baits before your appointment, as they interfere with our professional treatment.

Indoor Prep: Move furniture, clothes, and plants away from walls. Wipe down skirting boards to remove dust, as you won’t be able to clean them for 2 days post-treatment.
Kitchen Prep: Store fruit bowls, pet bowls, utensils, and open food packings inside closed cupboards.
Outdoor Prep: Clear any items blocking access to your outside foundation walls.

What are the pet safety rules during a professional ant treatment?

Answer: All people and pets must vacate the home and treatment areas for a minimum of 3 hours starting from your scheduled appointment time.

Dogs & Cats: Must leave the property or be locked securely in a designated non-treatment area like a garage or bathroom.
Birds & Fish: Move cages and tanks away from walls, and cover them completely to protect from stray drift.
Rabbits & Chickens: Move outdoor cages as far from the house foundations as possible and cover them.

What should I expect to see after an ant treatment is applied?

Answer: Indoor ant trails will disappear quickly on Day 1, followed by a sharp drop in exterior numbers within a week. You may see temporary “ant grouping” or dead piles in weeks 2 and 3, but all ant activity will completely cease by week 4.

Day 1: Inside, active trails disappear as they are pushed outside.
Week 1: Outside, ant numbers drop sharply, often leaving visible piles of dead ants near foundations.
Weeks 2–3: Inside, you may see small, inactive clusters of dying ants. Vacuum or wipe them up with a damp cloth without using cleaning chemicals. Outside, brief, new waves of trails might emerge as remaining weakened colonies attempt to forage.
Week 4: All ant activity inside and outside will be entirely gone. The nests have been destroyed and the ants removed from the property.

When should I contact Combat for a follow-up after an ant service?

Answer: You should contact Combat if you see active ant trails inside your home at Week 2, or any active ants anywhere on the property at Week 4. Our single ant treatment protects your home for 6+ months, and any required re-treatments within this period are completely free.

What is Normal: Finding dead ant graveyards, small inactive clusters, or occasional lone scout ants is expected.
Boundary Ants: Ants along your outer property boundary line are normal unless they begin marching back toward the house.

What can I do to prevent ants from returning after my treatment?

Answer: Keep food sealed, clean up spills instantly, wash pet bowls regularly, and cut back garden vegetation touching your home. Avoid harsh chemical cleaning, pressure washing, or painting your exterior walls for at least one month after treatment.

Cleaning Restrictions: Only clean windows and skirting boards with a damp cloth. Do not wash outer paths or house walls for 4 weeks. Planned house washing should be done before treatment.
Home Maintenance: Postpone interior or exterior house painting for at least 2 months following the application.
Garden Management: Trim tree branches and hedges so they do not touch your walls. Preventing vegetation bridges also significantly lowers your risk of seasonal rodent entry.
